Where to eat fish and sea food in Bucharest

Places to eat good fish and sea food

Although Bucharest is not a sea town, fish and sea food can be found in many places across town. I’m gonna talk about places to eat local sweet and salted water fish & mediterranean fish and sea food.

isoletta - looking towards the lake

isoletta – looking towards the lake

Isoletta is the high class one. Located in one of the most exclusive area of Bucharest (Parcul Herastrau) by the lake, they offer a large variety of fish, sea food and wines. Large fresh fish grilled on salt is a must here, as the Tonno tartare. A little strange, but you will also find good beef steaks here. (Soseaua Nordului 7-9, $$$$).

must have dish

ancora – must have dish

In the same area you will find a newer restaurant,  Ancora. (Soseaua Nordului 7-9, $$$). You will be delighted with lots of local recipes for local fresh fish (both from sweet and salted waters). Must try are Fish eggs as starters, fish soup and Scrumbie fish like locals do, but you can also try the mediterranean dishes. The tuna steak is also to be noticed. The wine selection is generous, with both Romanian and foreign wines. There is a nice terrace for summer time and a warm fire place for winter time.

mama leone fish terace

mama leone – fish terace

As Romania has a large variety of fish in Danube and Danube’s delta, Mama Leone will offer you starters that you never know they existed: small fish sausages, fish meatballs and more to be discovered. Fish soup is also something to remember. Downside is the service, waiters tend to be a little rude sometimes. Also, prices are usually per 100g so be aware of what and how much you order in order to avoid surprises.
(Povernei Street 22, $$$). (close to Piata Romana)

sea food

mesogios – stuffed calamari

With a strong greek influence, Mesogios will bring on your plate delicious fish and sea food. Of course it’s not a greek restaurant, it has his strong local mark, but the food is why you are there for. Try the grilled Saint Jacques and lobster, besides the rest of the fish. (Jean Luis Calderon 49, $$$$) (Universitate area)

delicious fish and sea food

amada – delicious fish and sea food grill

Amada is a green oasis in the center of a very busy town. The main attraction is the lovely terrace in greek style. With daily fresh fish and sea food and a mix of mediterranean styles, you can not go wrong. The menu is limited to what they have fresh that day or what they have prepared, so always ask the waiter/cook for details as they are the menu. Wine selection is not large, but the present ones are specific for fish and sea food. Better call for reservation as it’s only open at evenings and only 45 people can sit at tables. Do mention our website, we’re good friends. (+40 (0)744 496 577 – Radu Cristian street 3, $$) (Universitate area)

$ – close to market prices
$$ – regular prices
