Area description: Cotroceni is one of the greenest neighborhoods of the city. It’s a neighborhood with nice houses, with big gardens, where you do not find the blocks. The area still retains a distinguished feeling, given the elegant buildings of the interbelic period, the Botanical Garden and Palace Cotroceni ( home of the Romania President ). In the neighborhood are several major parks: Romniceanu, Eroilor, and Opera Academy.
The neighborhood is stretched around the Cotroceni Presidential Palace witch started to expand with the reign of King Ferdinand, when large properties belonging to famous families (Davila, for example) began to be parceled and the area began to settle the staff at the royal court.
In terms of administration, District Cotroceni belongs to Sector 5 and it’s located in the western part of Bucharest, but very close to the center. The neighborhood extends from Dâmbovita before the Opera to the Botanical Garden and the Cotroceni Palace. It is bordered by Dr. Staicovici street and the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine.
Cotroceni is an upscale neighborhood and unapproachable in terms of real estate for a small pocket.. This stylish area is inhabited by artists and old rich families.

*Tip: Situated very close to the center of Bucharest, close to public gardens and parks, this area is very convenient during the summer as it becomes a small oasis in the almost desert like heat.
Being one of the most beautiful spots of the city in terms of architecture, buildings and surroundings, Cotroceni area is in the same time renowned for its sport activities at the BNR Arenas. The arenas were built in ’84 and it is a full sports complex, where you can play tennis, soccer, ping pong, basketball, aerobics, or you can simply walk around. In the center it’s a hotel with closed circuit for athletes and a restaurant.

The Vibe: Despite the fancy architecture and downright picturesque, the neighborhood does not leave an impression of vivid. There are many elderly people in Cotroceni. This is the kind of neighborhood were you go if you want peace.

Highlights and tips: The neighborhood has changed little in the last 40 years, compared to other areas of the city. Cotroceni has always been a demanding residentia area and still is. Villas bear names such as Villa Maria, Villa Margarita and once (before being renovated by new owners) you could see some famous nameplates of interbelic architects who built them.
Attractions: If architecture is what you are looking for then Cotroceni area is were you should take a stroll. Most of the houses are architecture jewelry with a major historical importance.
Gradina Botanica, Palatul Cotroceni, Arenele BNR, the Opera are just a few reasons to go and visit this relaxed neighborhood.
