Where to go for breakfast?

Smell the coffee or feel the good taste of a morning tea!

Romanian’s are not so used to having breakfast. Or let’s say they were not used since in the last years, they started to adopt a healthier life style and give breakfast  the proper importance. All hotels provide a good breakfast but if you want to go outside a hotel for a great beginning of the day, here is a list of places I would go.

Rue du Pain, you can’t find a better place for you breakfast! This French bakery is famous for“Benedict eggs”, great pastries, delicious cakes and lovely soups. Try everything in the patisserie display, and them come back for more. In weekends you might have to wait longer to be served.

Readers Cafe is open every day from Monday to Saturday from 9:00 and offers several delicious options for breakfast. Readers Breakfast consists of scrambled rustic salad, butter, honey, toast, tea / coffee and orange juice. Other options for breakfast would be a croissant with ham and Emmental, croissant with smoked salmon and cream cheese or scrambled eggs with vegetables and York ham. At Readers you can choose your eggs cook in  any style, or just order a simple croissant with butter. Whatever you will take it’s going to be tasty, in an classy atmosphere. If you like any of the paintings on the walls, you should know they are for sale.

Grand Cafe Galleron, the cafe is located in a noble building and is a magnet for passersby and tourists. Their Good Morning Breakfast consists of scrambled eggs or simple fried eggs, cheese, bacon, ham, fresh citrus juice and bagels. The cafe opens at 9:00. Croissant with butter, quiche, chicken vegetable tart, simple omelet, scrambled eggs with ham and cheese, croissant & cafe or if you like pastry, try the basket for 2 persons.

Cafepedia, another café in an noble house, here you can enjoy breakfast starting at 8:00. The Cafepedia breakfast consists of ham, cheese, eggs, marinated feta, tomatoes, lettuce, cucumbers, olives and toast. English breakfast consists of eggs, bacon, smoked sausage, marinated feta, olives, mushrooms, potatoes with herbs, tomatoes and toast. Their specialty is the romantic breakfast which consists of mini croissants, quail eggs, salad, smoked salmon, cream cheese, cheese, pork ham, dried tomatoes, mozzarella, mayonnaise, pesto sauce and mustard dressing. You will also find in their menu eggs Benedict or omelets.

Fitto Cafe has two locations, one in Piata Victoriei which opens at 8 and one in Floreasca which at 9. You can choose from a vast breakfast options consisting of cooked eggs in various ways, fresh juices, yogurt with fresh fruit, sweet carrot, cereals or fresh green apples. For a more consistent breakfast, order the Lawyer breakfast (espresso + croissant butter + scrambled eggs), CEO breakfast (espresso, scrambled eggs with ham and cheese, juice of apple and carrot), Doctor’s Order Breakfast (orange juice, scrambled eggs broccoli, peppers and cheese) Accountant and Breakfast (coffee, toast with ham and cheese or croissant with butter).

Grand Cafe Van Gogh opens at 8:30 for breakfast and is my favorite place in Centru Vechi for a perfect beginning of the day. The menu is rich, you’ll find from mesh or omelet eggs, croissant with butter and jam, fruit salad, toast with butter and jam or pain au chocolat. Enjoy a good Van Gogh coffee or a fresh juices.. In the summer sit at one of the terrace tables, in the bohemian atmosphere of Centrul Vechi , the ideal place to be as soon as you wake up.

Chocolat with its two locations, one in Dorobanti the other one in Centrul Vechi it’s a must. You can opt for a salted or a sweet breakfast. The Salty Chocolate has two bio eggs cooked the way you want to, lettuce, tomato, bacon, crispy sausage, feta, cheese, coffee filter or tea, toast and butter. You can also choose separate omelet, eggs Benedict, eggs cooked on a bed of sautéed mushrooms, poached eggs with fresh herbs served on fluffy sandwiches. The Sweet Breakfast consisting of French butter croissant, sandwiches, fresh fruit and organic fruit yogurt, coffee / hot chocolate / tea and butter, along with mini sweet delicacies of your choice. You can also try the Chocolat a bowl of cereal with milk or yogurt.
